3rd Shift Knitter Operator

Pay Range: $12-14 per hour

Full Job Description:

This job description is generalized for both the knitting and weaving departments. The operator will report to the department supervisor in a manufacturing setting and will be responsible for detailed and accurate production work. This position is all inclusive, in that, the employee will be trained on multiple applications within the production operation. The employee is expected to follow established protocols and procedures and comply with the set policies of Interstate Narrow Fabrics.

Essential Functions:

  • Tends to a battery of machines that knit or weave narrow fabrics.

  • Continuously patrols looms and creels.

  • Observes process to detect yarn breaks and ties broken yarn ends.

  • Observes process to detect exhausted yarn packages.

  • Thorough and detailed observation for defects in product as it enters doff boxes and notifies supervisor when defects are noticed.

  • Understand what creates a defect and be able to troubleshoot or fix the issue.

  • Fetch yarn spools, creel machine (knitting) and tie end of yarn to yarn in machine or thread yarn through guides, tension springs, stop motion devices and yarn carrier or needles, using hook.

  • (Weaving) Ties yarn to broken end and threads yarn through drop wires, heddle eyes, and reed dents to repair warp breaks, using reed hook.

  • Adjust machine mechanisms, tensions, and speeds to produce specified products.

  • Inspect products to ensure that specifications are met and to determine if machines need adjustment.

  • Corrects misdraws and crossed ends.

  • Ability to read (weaving) drafts.

  • Notifies machine fixer/supervisor of mechanical issues.

  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Possess basic mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

  • With assistance/training may replace defective needles using appropriate tools.

  • Responsible for keeping a clean work area sweeping and disposing of trash in a timely manner.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be attentive, watching and listening for any problems in area of responsibility.

  • Must be able to hand off the status of jobs to overlapping shifts.

  • Ability to understand and follow the requirements of applicable work instructions and/or internal specifications.

  • Ability to read and comprehend documents such as safety rules, work instructions, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

  • Possess basic mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

  • Basic understanding of goods manufacturing practices and working within regulated industries.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to get along well with others and work in a team environment.

  • Excellent dependability and reliability.

  • Organized and detail oriented.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions; exercise judgment, resourcefulness, and initiative.

 

Physical Demands:

This position very frequently is required to stand for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to reach with arms (above the head), use hands and have finger dexterity to knot, thread and handle fine yarns and tools. Right hand dominance is an asset. Sometimes required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, walk, talk or hear. This position requires good clear vision and including color, peripheral, distance, and depth perception, the ability to adjust focus. Routine exposure to a noisy environment. Occasionally climbs stairs and / or ladders. This position lifts, pulls, pushes up to 10 lbs., 25 lbs., or 50 lbs.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

  • Prior manufacturing experience is preferred.

  • Pass criminal background check and drug screen.

Note: Pay rate is according to experience. In most cases our company is willing to train the right candidate and pay rate will depend on different factors.
